Car hire
« on: July 26, 2024, 10:34. »
I’m thinking of hiring a car, haven’t done this before, can I have some recommendations of what hire company to use, also I’ve heard that they try to convince you to get scratch/dent insurance as an extra, any ideas off what the cost of this would be thinking of 10/14 days depending on flights

I've used Record for years and never had an issue with them either in Alicante or Majorca.
I must admit for peace of mind I now always take out their insurance, for the sake of a few extra quid you have no worries that they'll try it on with an extortionate charge for damage that was on the car when you picked it up or damage that occured when the car was hired out to you.
I always return the car with a full tank of fuel and I can guarantee that when I turn my phone on when back in England there will be a ping from my card company notifying me of the refund.
Join the Record Club and you also get a discount on your hire costs.

Like John I used Record for years without any problems provided you read and follow the T&Cs.

Recently I have used Centauro who are a little more expensive than others but all their hires include the additional insurances. Really slick collection and return and no need to forensically check on collection or prove no damage on return.  Return full of fuel and the deposit quickly refunded. Real peace of mind when you should be enjoying yourself.

Whatever you do, heed other's warnings and don't go anywhere near the likes of Firefly, Goldcar and the other bargain basement shysters. Also if they know you have car hire insurance in the UK they really go to town with the made up damages.

Good luck
