Car hire

My two daughters are out in July for two weeks.  They want to hire a car from the airport but they arrive at different times. One during the afternoon and one close to midnight.  Is there a way of both of them being able to drive?  They want to hire at the airport to avoid 2 x taxi rides....but if someone has a better suggestion, please let me know

Are they just hiring one car between them?
If so why don't the first daughter get the car go to GA, then drive back to pick up the 2nd daughter at mid night?
And yes they can both drive the car you just add a named driver (if this is what you meant?)

Just a word of caution, I had booked a car hire some time ago with Dickmans for our current trip, with free additional driver. When we collected the car on Sunday we were told that the rules had just been changed, free additional drivers are now conditional on taking out the additional insurance (which we did not want to do, we have an excess policy in place). Without taking out the insurance, additional drivers are 50 euros each!

I would not be surprised to find other companies doing the same, so check carefully when making the booking.

The other point to note is that, whereas you can add additional drivers after the initial hire, your second daughter is arriving at midnight so it will almost certainly involve going back the next day to do it, depending on who you hire from, otherwise you could also run into an "out of hours" charge on top.

Thank you.  Yes, just one car.  We had problems the last time we hired and didn't feel we wanted to do it again and have relied on buses.  But they are keen to have a car and want to explore, I just want to help them avoid the pitfalls.

Yes agree the second driver may have to return the next day to sign the paperwork ect.

I would speak to Paul at xtra car hire he will defo sort something out for you, and defo no extra charges on anything, (2nd driver/no excess/no out of hours charge/car seat) that's his selling point.
 Also they bring the car to you so no waiting.

Our booking was with Hirecarsinspain, not their fault, Dickmans simply changed the rules, take it or leave it situation. We left it (herself never drives anyway)

Agree with above re Xtra car rental. Don't be put off with the price you are quoted. It will seem higher than others BUT THAT IS WHAT YOU PAY. Fuel - take back as at pick up.No added extras.
