House Insurance
« on: January 16, 2016, 10:07. »
Hello everyone,

We purchased a house in December just before Christmas - this will be purely for us as a holiday home (possible retirement in a few years) in Monte Y Mar. We were quoted a price of just over 300 Euros for house insurance by Sabedell bank but at the time we thought we were being pushed into a corner to buy so did not insure with them.
Has anyone got any idea of what is a fair / average price to insure a 2 bed roomed house with basement as well as any recommendations for a good English speaking insurance company to deal with?
   Many thanks in advance.

As above, Linda, Lorri and Steve are superb.
Not only will they sell you the policy thats right for you at a great price they are there on your doorstep when you need them.
A few years ago I had a car accident that resulted in the car being written off and claims made against me for personal injuries...........Linda was superb, she took care of everything...........made me realise for the first time in my life the importance of having a good insurance broker, she translated letters from the courts for me, told me what I should be doing, she was a lifesaver, it would have been a very stressful situation without her support and guidance

Regards all

John

Check what you need to cover for from your administrator as somethings like Buildings may already be covered with your fees.

I personally got mine through Linea Directa along with car insurance but as with most Insurance companies you do need to shop around and be prepared to haggle

We've also used linda rowland for the last 10 years,  but do some comparisons to ensure the premium is fair as they will price match or better. Of note is be accurate with contents cover unlike our uk house which is full to bursting with furniture, and a lifetime of possessions,  the Spanish house by contrast is very minimal. Our Spanish contents insurance used to default at €50,000 on tallying what we actually had it only came to €13,000, so 20 was more than sufficient.
They dont like it up em !

I paid Liberty Seguros €177.27 last year via Linda.

Your policy and all the small print are all in English, so no worries there

From memory €20,000 contents and €200,000 property, can leave the place unoccupied for 6 months and still have full cover.
Victor made a good point re value of contents, it automatically goes up every year and can have quite an impact on your renewal price unless you peg it back

Regards all

John

PS Tony and Lesley make a good point re community insurance, ours covers rebuilding costs in case of fire etc but doesn't cover damage from a burst pipe for example or damage that a burglar may make in a forced entry, hence our choice to fully insure the place ourselves.....this also adds public liability insurance to the equation, which could be the most expensive claim of the lot
