New Smart Meter from Iberdrola.
« on: March 03, 2016, 21:17. »
Couple of letters in the post from Iberdrola today.
They are replacing our current electric meter with a "smart meter", doesnt tell me when though, there will be no cost to me.
One bonus will be no more estimated bills, hurray!!

Regards all

John

If anyone has had their electricity 'upgraded' by anyone other than a qualified Spanish electrician, you will find with the new smart meters that you will be put back to your contracted power supply.

I dread this 'upgrade' as when we moved into our property in 2006 our meter was being charged to a neighbour, we paid for another neighbours bill etc etc and it was only when different people were being cut off was the problem identified :(

Thanks for the link John, there is a part about electrical voltage surges, I so far have had a midi music centre and TV destroyed by lighting induced surges in GA so now my TV's, music centre and air con have good quality surge protectors, air con is particularly susceptible to surges due to the microprocessors they use in the control system. I have in the past seen first hand the damage to a house where lighting hit the incoming mains supply, every electrical appliance was destroyed and the house wiring, the owner unplugged the TV aerial before the strike and the aerial plug played on the carpet a hole about 75mm was blown through the floor boards.

Have also read that if you have an illegal power upgrade I.e.if you have replaced the ICP current limiter from a 3.5kw to a 5.5kw the new smart meter in the outside cabinet will trip its own ICP at your contracted 3.5kw limit so as you have no access to your meter in the cabinet I suspect iberdrola will have to reset it, loss of power for a period I suppose and probably a charge.
