Elche Sunday Market

Hi All,

Visited the Sunday market at Elche today for the first time and was very impressed with prices in general and especially the quality of the fruit and veg.

There was a major police operation going on with a very substantial number of dejected stall holders watching their stock being selotaped up into big cardboard boxes and confiscated. All they got in return was a A4 piece of paper with a list of confiscated items on. Not the best start to their day.

Our favourite market Dave, easy parking, wide isles and as you say great produce at a good price

Why was their stock confiscated?
What were they(trying) to sell?

It's at the Martinez Valero football stadium in Elche.

Confiscated stock.....I would assume CD's, DVD's, counterfeit designer clothes and bags.....but that's just a guess!!

Regards all

John

I wish they'd turn up to some of the other markets and confiscate all the MK bags. Why is Milton Keynes so popular out here?.

Avinguda Manuel Martínez Valero, 3, 03208 Elx, Alicante

Good guess John, mainly clothes and the MK handbags but also perfume and trainers. I wonder if they will police the other markets as well but it certainly sends a message.

Surely nobody is daft enough to believe that these "brand names" on sale at street markets are genuine?

I once bought a Rolex watch for 12 euros and said to the stall holder that it must be fake. Its a genuine fake was his reply. The watch lasted years.

I feel sorry for the people who pay £3000/£4000 for the real watches and everyone presumes they are fakes-you have to laugh!!

I read a story that burberry which has been around since the 1850s nearly went bust due to fakes, not that the fakes took they're custom but that genuine burberry customers who spent a small fortune on theyre bags etc stopped buying because, everyone assumed that the genuine were fakes also so the brand suffered.
With fakes you need to look at the wider picture as a lot of sellers are no doubt being exploited.
They dont like it up em !

If they are now cracking down on fakes the will have to arrest all on sea front at Guadama!
