Is still for sale and open for business.
The advert, including notice of sale is in the local magazine which you can read online at

Had lovely cod and chips there late last night whilst listening to crazy kevs kareoke, not sure why long standing owner is selling but never the less a little gem. Hope whoever buys it keeps up the same standards.

Never had a bad meal there.  I understand John is ready to retire, and can only hope whoever buys Darby´s keeps up the standard.

Victor and Bert make a good point. The current owners have done a great job building the business up. It's good reliable quality food and it needs someone who knows what they are doing to take it over - that's the risk here in Spain, some people suddenly become trained (chefs, electricians, plasterers, builders pub owners etc) the minute they step off the plane at ALC !

Don't forget the numerous taxi drivers, hundreds of property managers and thousands of professional cleaners who also picked up their qualifications at ALC airport :)

Still makes me laugh all the uk aircon specialists that work in spain, coming from a country where aircon is as rare as hens teeth. Also i amazed sky tv keeps afloat in the uk with all there trained engineers appearing to work in spain.

And the builders all seem to have " 25 years experience " for some reason   even when they are only about 35 years old !!  but they have blagged their way through anyway  and I know cos I really do have 40 years experience ,honestly !!

When I used to interview builders and tradesmen and they said ' I've been in the trade 20, 30, 40 years etc.' I'd say 'So what, tell me what you've done in the last five'

A true story, i got chatting with passenger yesterday flying back to the UK out of Alicante, he told me about being an estate agent since moving to Spain 12 year's ago. He sells cheap apartments to high end villas when i asked about the comparison with the uk housing market before he left, he replied "not a clue i used to be a post man.
