GDPR and birthdays
« on: October 23, 2018, 22:37. »
Hi ,

Just wondered if this had been brought up at all before.
When we scroll down to the bottom of the page we find upcoming birthdays of users on the forum.
I'm just wondering how this now sits with GDPR and whether or not we need to remove this as a general rule?

Not trying to be an old fuddy duddy but it might be worth looking into.

Regards

joe

You can remove birthday and other personal information by modifying your 'Profile'.

I always give the minimum possible information to sites such as this one, especially since it uses plain 'http' instead of the encrypted 'https'.

I only log into GAsbags for the minimum amount of time and only when absolutely necessary (e.g. to post this note).  Usually I just lurk.

Hi Keith ,

I think though as a matter of urgency it may be wise for Admin to remove this to comply with the regulations which came out in May or at least inform everyone that if they wish to be included in the list then CLICK HERE for instance. Whilst it is nice to wish someone a happy birthday I'm not so certain that it the regulations permit it.

Regards
Joe

I can introduce a GDPR "Helper" to this site but it will not guarantee GDPR compliance from all members. What it will do is :-

Allow members to "export" their data, their profile and post information.
On membership deletion it will clear the IP address and email from posts and assign a new username to all old posts.
It will Include a privacy policy page, add a link in the footer and add a section for consent on registration.
It will store the date/time that the privacy policy was changed and introduce an option to force members to reagree.
It will store the date/time that the registration agreement was changed and force members to reagree.

As for dates of birth, just take a look at Facebook where thousands and thousands (probably millions) of members dates of birth are being posted every single day and if you think that the Facebook organisation do not understand the requirements of the "General Data Protection Regulation 2018" which was introduced throughout the whole of Europe in May of this year then I am afraid that is not correct.
As for "HTTPS" instead "HTTP"  please understand that I now have the required SSL Cerificate installed on the web servers for ALL the websites I am running (5 sites altogether) and GAsbags is the only site that so far refuses to recognise it. I am constantly working on it and if you are not happy with the current situation I suggest you continue to "lurk" until I get it sorted out.

Hi ,

Thanks. I am very aware of the Facebook birthday situation - something which I am amazed that hasn't been brought up and which they seem not too bothered about. I run our running  club's website and fb page and we are having to think carefully about what we post and store in terms of data.
I thought it important enough to mention it here and by no means was having a pop at the forum.

Regards

joe

Keith

"Lurking" days are over, members can now log in and stay logged in as long as they like if they wish to do so. Please read the following post :-
