Thats interesting!!
« on: August 07, 2015, 14:48. »
Just looking to hire a car for 30 days.............late September to late October.

I was a bit shocked at the price...........€449.39 or €14.98 a day

I then looked at booking the same car from the same provider in two "chunks" with the following resuly

The first 28 days came out at €178.21 or €6.36 a day and the last two days came out at €11.98 or €5.99 a day

I guess I might be doing two seperate bookings!!

Regards all

John

Hi there, I used them once and had to cancel............they charge you up front, unlike going direct to the car hire companies, and it took an age to get my money book so I wont use them again.

I got so fed up with car hire prices, and hidden costs ..like petrol, and insurance..I gave up and bought  a small second hand car...in a year it's more than paid for itself.
Good luck

I dropped an email to the car hire company asking them to explain this anomaly in pricing.
Their reply stated "we do not accept reservations for more than 28
days"........it was news to me as my last six bookings have all been for longer than 28 days.......if my reading of their email was correct this policy is only in force until the 15th September.
Puzzling!!

You can buy a cheap 'hire car' insurance in UK and avoid the huge markup the hire companies try to sting you with.

Hi mate, I've booked a Focus class with Record, €160 for 28 days, plus a tank of fuel, unless I can "cheaply" extend it I'll get a lift to the airport at the end of the break

Here you go;
http://www.recordrentacar.com/car_hire/car_hire_alicante.htm

Located in the terminal
I've used them for years, if you join their "club" you get a c.10% discount on your second booking and thereafter.
I never prepay, once booked I keep on checking the price and cancel and rebook if it's cheaper.
I normally end up paying about €120 for a months hire, we don't visit in the summer peak period.
It's because of the availability of these great rates that we don't buy a car  again in GA

I  can also recommended Record though they still push add ons at collection. Were now considering not hiring a car especially July,August because of the cost and due to the heat this year it spent most of the months rental parked up,we didnt even use all the fuel over 4 weeks, not helped by 70mpg. The cost was pushing £400 which like others we tracked downwards over months. What were now thinking is especially during peak time not having a rental because  £400 would pay a lot of taxis, the ga train, the bus to alicante etc, do others not bother sometimes if so where do you go.
They dont like it up em !

Didn't hire a car earlier in July - no need esp. for it to sit in the sun and roast in the heat.

Buses , ga train and shank's pony was good enough. for me and my nephew this time.

The summer can be exhausting and unless I had no alternative I wouldn't come over in July or August and that's when the car hire companies need to make their money.

They (the car hire companies) are really - and not unexpectedly - making there bug bucks while they can.

£600 for two weeks is not uncommon on a small car, even with the offsite renters.

You hear stories of full / full but that full tank invariably comes with admin fees. My daughter and her chap were bullied by Dickamnns into taking E16 a day extra insurance out because (and I am paraphrasing ) " if there is any scratches on the car we can charge you "E1000's" for repairs.

If you decline the insurance they "block" or worse still debit the card so that you faces charges if and when you return the car your car and some of them are now not recognising the excess cover policies that you can take out in the UK.

Theres lots of poor quality cars - even from reputable dealers in July and August and as I still have to have my hols in peak, often school holiday times I bought a car and for me in my circumstances it now pays off
