Hi Ash, the ants I am pleased to say were only around for one day

The flies as Dave says are so annoying, swat the buggers as many times you like and they still come back

The Mrs and all the ladies we know have had lots of bites over the last few weeks........whereas the guys we know have hardly had one, strange
We haven't heard any  mosquitos so no idea what's biting them

Regards all

John

We had them up the hill years ago, there seemed to be hundreds of them all at once, it was a long time ago when we previously had a property and oddly once they had landed they seemed to lose their wings, don't know if this is what normally happens but it seemed like one day they were there and the next they had gone.

Spot on sunseekers

""Flying ant day" is an informal term for the day on which queen ants emerge from the nest to begin their nuptial flight. In most species, the male ants also fly alongside them, although they are smaller and less noticeable. The queens fly around—some very long distances, and others going only a few meter..then mate,

They appeared after the torrential rain.  I think original nests were destroyed, & it prompted every colony to try to proliferate at the same time.
Unmentioned is the other effect of the rain:-
Manhole covers forced up, toilet paper + obvious allover walkway at urbanova but - bonus - a multitude of drowned cockroaches.
The rain really cleared the air too.
